Charles
E. Swenberg (1940-1999)
Charles E. Swenberg, whose career spanned faculty positions in
the Physics Department at New York University and George Mason
University, and a managerial position as head of the Division of
Radiobiology and Radiation Biochemistry Department at the Armed Forces
Radioibiology Research Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, was my brilliant
theorist collaborator on the two books, “Electronic Processes in
Organic Crystals” in 1982, and “Electronic Processes in Organic
Crystals and Polymers” in 1999. He
was also a co-author with me on several papers involving exciton
dynamics, particularly those capitalizing on the validation of his
prediction that singlet exciton fission into two triplet excitons was
highly allowed. He was my close associate and friend for more than twenty
years.
