John Meurig
Thomas
Prof. Sir John Meurig Thomas is world famous for his research over the past twenty years on the design, preparation and testing of new solid catalysts. He has been conspicuously successful in modifying nanoporous materials so as to place isolated, single-site active centers on their large internal areas. He has been able to devise (i) enantioselective hydrogenation catalysts (made up of immobilized organometallic agents inside the pores of silica), as well as (ii) regio -and shape -selective oxidation catalysts. ketones.
He was the Director of the Royal Institute and has received awards from every nation engaged in serious scientific studies. He was helpful to Swenberg and me by critiquing a section of our book “Electronic Process in Organic Crystals”. He has been a dear friend of long standing.
