Prof.
Edward McNelis (Chairman, Chemistry Dept.), Dr. Marek Zielinski (Senior
Scientist), Dr. Kenneth Slotnick.
Edward
McNelis
Edward McNelis, Chairman of the Chemistry Department in the Faculty of Arts and Science. He conducted groundbreaking research in the field of organic chemistry and was a distinguished member of the American Chemical Society. His recent research activities included papers on olefin metathesis, tamoxifen synthesis and the”6-5-7” method for bond angle estimation. His work resulted in over 70 publications and patents.
Marek
Zielinski
Dr. Zielinski came to the RSSL as a visiting scientist from the
laboratory of Prof. Marion Kryszewski in Lodz, Poland.
He chose to remain in this country and was an extremely
productive member of the laboratory, making important contributions to
photoemission and photoconductivity studies.
Kenneth
Slotnick
Dr. Slotnick was my doctoral student in the early 1980’s. He successfully demonstrated the electrolysis of water to
produce free oxygen at the anode portion or at the anode surface of an
anthracene crystal. He
received his Ph. D. in 1982 and went on to a successful career in the
pharmaceutical industry.
