Prof. Cobas was Chairman of the Physics Department of the
University of Puerto Rico (UPR) in the 1960’sand President of UPR from 1971-1973. He
was also the Associate Director of the Puerto Rico Nuclear Center in the
1960’s. Prof. Cobas played a major role in bringing accomplished
scientists into the Physics facultyat the UPRAt the
invitation of Professor Cobas, I spent my sabbatical year as a visiting
scientist at the UPR.Prior
to that, I was instrumental in starting a program at the UPR devoted to
the study of electronic processes in conjugated materials. Ilectured frequently, interacted with the scientists there,
and started writing “Electronic Processesin Organic Crystals.”
